I went to Chichijima Island and Hahajima Island in the Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands), Japan in May 2023.
As a record, I would like to introduce you to my travel schedule, my experiences and how to plan a trip.
I want to visit the Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands), Chichijima Island and Hahajima Island in the future! Hope it will be helpful for those considering a trip.
Well… It was really a wonderful trip. I was so moved.

About the Bonin Islands, Chichijima Island and Hahajima Island
The Bonin Islands, Chichi-jima
In June 2011, the Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands) were registered as a World Natural Heritage site.
The Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands) are an archipelago of about 1,000 km south of Tokyo, consisting of about 30 islands of various sizes, including, from north to south, Mukojima, Chichijima, Hahajima, Volcanic (Iwo) Islands, Okinotori, MinamiTorishima, and Nishinojima.
Because the islands have never been connected to the continent, many endemic species have survived.
During World War II, the Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands) were the scene of a war between the U.S. and Japanese forces. Chichijima Island and Hahajima Island were heavily bombed, and Iwo Jima suffered heavy casualties in a fierce battle.
Today, the islands still bear the marks of the war, including the many air-raid shelters and artillery pieces built by the Japanese military.
The Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands) cherish history and nature and pass them on to the future!
Yeah! I really want everyone to know about the Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands).

Chichijima Island and Hahajima Island Trip Plan
I started planning a trip to Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands) in mid-February, and in late February I asked my travel agent about reservations.
It still felt like I made a last-minute reservation.
The travel agency I used this time was Ogasawara Tourist Co., Ltd.
I met them through an internet search.
The decisive factor was the plan with a tour to “Chichijima Island & Hahajima Island” and the kind e-mail communication.
I checked it by word of mouth on Google, and it seems possible to communicate in English.

By the way, I heard during the trip that those who got a boarding ticket for the OgasawaraMaru by themselves were desperate to make a reservation by phone in one hand and PC at the same time as the boarding ticket was released.
It took about 150 calls before I could finally get a hold of the internet ….
The scramble for tickets during the busy season is amazing.
Days Required For Trip
How do you get to the Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands), Chichijima? Only ships!!!OgasawaraMaru.
And it takes 24 hours.
Furthermore, only a round trip between Tokyo’s Takeshiba Pier (Minato Ward) and Chichijima Island (Futami Port)!
Plus, 1 ~ 2 flights a week from Tokyo! About three times a week during the busy season.
With that in mind, it is absolutely necessary to have at least four days, or at least six days to enjoy Chichijima Island.
I have secured 10 days off for this trip.
But this wasn’t enough …
That’s how attractive Chichijima Island and Hahajima Island are!
Actual Trip Schedule
The most important thing to think about is the travel plan and schedule.
Isn’t this the hardest part of planning for a place you know nothing about? But you don’t want to make any mistakes!
Ogasawara Tourist Co., Ltd took care of all this heavy lifting for us.
They simply asked us what we wanted to do, made us a proposal, and we traveled to Chichijima Island and Hahajima Island in the Bonin Islands (Ogasawara Islands) according to the following schedule.

Good Points & Improvements Of This Trip

That’s about it.
I had a lot of trouble with my luggage. Because I’m a worrier.
Required Belongings
The UV rays are strong anyway, and there are tons of outdoor activities like marine sports and trekking. Be sure to protect yourself from sunburn!
This is for both men and women!!!
When it burns, the shower is awfully painful (‘; ω; `)

It really tans in an instant. Don’t lick the ultraviolet rays of the Ogasawara Islands!
Total Trip Expenses
For this trip, Chichijima and Hahajima 10 days, 1 person spent … about 450,000 yen!
This expense is the total amount of everything, including transportation (from Tokyo to Chichijima and Haha-jima * transportation expenses to Tokyo are not included), meals, lodging, and souvenirs.

If don’t dive & choose a cheap inn or a cheap cabin (choose the lowest price), could it be possible to spend about 250,000 yen per person for 10 days on Chichi-jima & Haha-jima … * I can’t say for sure
A duck you can only go to once in your life … It will be a great memory! I thought so, and I splurged on it.
